Town Hall Meeting Recap

The Our Town Frederiksted Inc. Board of Directors would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who attended and participated in last night’s town hall meeting. Your enthusiasm, feedback, and passion for Frederiksted and St. Croix are truly appreciated! It’s your input that helps us continue to improve and grow together as a community!

A recap of last night’s highlights:

  • Deadline for Housing Ecosystem Grant Program, which provides $2,500 to $15,000 in assistance to rehab residential properties in downtown Frederiksted, is extended to May 30th by 11:59 p.m. Apply here.
  • OTF is the recipient of a Mercy Corps Hurricane Resilience grant in the amount of $10,000 for the purchase of tools including chainsaws, leaf blowers, a utility trailer, pressure washer, etc. in support of town clean-up initiatives.
  • OTF applied for $15 million Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) late last year to renovate and repair sixteen (16) properties located in Frederiksted town. When the application process was completed, CDBG offered $1.5 million. After negotiations and discussions with CDBG, OTF was successful in getting $3.4 million, including maintenance for the eight (8) years.
  • OTF is in talks with the VI Department of Agriculture to make improvements and manage the Ann E. Heyliger Vegetable Market in Frederiksted. The market has a rich history as a gathering spot. Let’s return this space to the wider community!
  • In the works — OTF will do a survey and talk with residents to see what businesses are needed in Frederiksted town and collaborate with business owners to sustainably bring businesses back to town.
  • Over 100 neighborhood streets in the Frederiksted outlying areas need street names! Street naming guidelines and submission forms are available here.
  • OTF is EXCITED for the long-awaited reopening of the Vincent F. Mason Sr. Coral Resort Pool on May 9th!! OTF continues to advocate for progress and updates/status of the Athalie M. Petersen Public Library reconstruction.
  • Prosperity Farm Distillery will host Spirit of Craft Celebration on Saturday, May 10th from 9am to 9pm. It will be a day of culture, craft spirits, music, food, and family fun at Prosperity Farm Distillery in St. Croix. Entry is FREE with donation of a canned good item to support My Brother’s Table.
  • The Environmental and Beautification Committee informed the group of the up-coming Town Clean-Up on May 31st.
